It might seem obvious, many forget to wear comfortable shoes for their Waltz classes. And although comfortable shoes are a great start, we strongly recommend investing in some proper dancing shoes. This because a proper dance shoe will give you just the right amount of traction. This will allow you to move around the floor and practice your Waltz dance skills without having to think about the shoes you are wearing. Dance shoes have thinner soles than normal shoes and a steel shank for support. The shoe material is also flexible and lightweight.

The Waltz is a beautiful, smooth and relatively slow dance that is distinguished by its rise and fall movements. The Waltz is an early classic that dominated ballroom in the 18th century. Furthermore, the dancers’ shoulders continuously move smoothly, parallel with the ground.
The Waltz dates its origins back to sixteenth-century Europe, specifically, Germany and Austria.
The origins of The Waltz can be dated back all the way to the 16th century. At this time, high society in Germany would dance a form of ballroom called Volta. This was similar to the Waltz and was danced in high-class dance halls throughout the country.
Eventually, the upper classes decided that Volta was too intimate and was considered a scandalous dance. This caused it to fade away for a while in Germany. Luckily for the future of the Waltz, the common people of Austria had a similar dance called the Ländler.
The Ländler was popular and spread to Vienna in the 18th century. Over time, it developed and became known as the Viennese Waltz. This dance would later become an extremely popular dance throughout Europe thanks to the musical masterpieces of Johann Strauss and Franz Lanner.
Today, the Waltz is danced all across the world and in many forms.
