The Nightclub Two Step is a partnered dance developed in the mid-1960s and was one of the most popular forms of contemporary social dance.
Also known as the Disco Two Step, this fun dance style features a more relaxed hold and is characterised by a quick-quick-slow beat.
The Nightclub Two Step originated from Whitaker, Illinois. The decade was the 1960s and a 15-year-old boy named Buddy Schwimmer developed the dance. Buddy was a West Coast Swing dancer who noticed that at his high-school gatherings and parties, slow ballads were often not very entertaining.
This lead him to invent a new way to dance to slow ballads which would be more interesting. He would practice with his sister as a child and managed to refine his dance style.
Eventually, Buddy went on to open a Dance Studio in Costa Mesa, California. This is where he taught his Nightclub Two Step dance to many people who then spread the dance around the USA.
Buddy has been called “The Kind of Swing” due to his dance legacy and his son managed to win the famous TV show “So You Think You Can Dance?”. His daughter was also a 4th place finalist on the same show during the next year.
